    Bridgeport EZ-Trak SX computer

    Hi,
I bought an EZ trak for my hobby work, just finished rebuilding the head, works nice. Now I am looking at the CNC side of it, the power supply was burnt, so I replaced it with the same part. Then I noticed the processor on the mother board was missing, I found a 386 computer and replaced with that processor i387 sx. It does have the boot floppy in the floppy drive.

When i power up i see 2 red LEDs on the BMDC2 board, and 2 green LEDs on the drivers.

I do have the EZ trak software on a floppy. I am not sure if any of the boards got damaged.

What if I load the software on a different computer and slide the BMDC2 in it? does it need a driver? or is that included in the EZ trak software?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The SX machine did not come with a hard drive. The boot floppy included basic DOS and the machine software. I would be checking the CMOS settings to make sure the floppy was defined correctly and thus could be read correctly.
If the BMDC loads, one of those red LED will go out and the other one will glow dimly.

    Almost there

    George,
Now BMDC is working and the screen says to "home machine". However, there the power is off and the servos are not energized, what am I doing wrong? I was the reading the manual and saw the remote start button, is that the power switch?

    thanks

It should say to press 3 which should enable the drives. Then it should say to press any key to start the homing.
If it comes up with drives not on, you have a problem.

    Drives not on!

You are correct, the message "press 3 to home machine" comes up, but drives are not on. I checked the relays (cr1 and cr2) are not energized. Where should i start testing?

    thanks

When the machine is first powered up the servos are *supposed* to be off. I usually hit the start button twice to start the homing sequence.

Check and make sure the keypad is working. Install a full size keyboard and try that.

    may be the keypad/keyboar

Yes, may be the keypad is bad. Here is what i tried.

Connected a full keyboard, until the EZ trak screen comes up the keyboard is responding, I can press alt+ctrl+del and it will restart the computer. However, after the EZ trak screen is up none of the keys repond! any software issues??

thanks for everyones help, i feel like I am almost there and at the final stage to get it running.

Might be a bad BMDC. Might be the wrong version of software for what is inside the machine. Any idea of the version you are using?

    Hello George,
It shows 3.08 for a second before the EZ trak window comes up, is that the version?
In the mean time, is there is anyway I could atleast have only the digital readout working? this way i can use the machine manually.
    thanks

For a SX machine, I do not go past ver 3.02. That one has a screen saver and looks for a hard drive. If it does not see one then it sets up a RAM disk.
I thought that Ver 3.08 was either a bug filled limited issue or was for a 3 axis machine and not meant for a sx. Let me check.
