    can't remove heidenhain encoder

I can not seem to find out how in the heck to remove this encoder, it is off a bridgeport MDI. Anyone remove one before?

Not removed the exact one but many Heidenhain shaft encoders, usually there is an access hole to allow removing the coupler set screw?
The encoder shaft is still attached to the coupler, normally you don't need to remove the cover and circuit board?

Thank you, I had to turn the handwheel to see it, and boy what a small screw on that coupling.

anyways, it looks like it is not threaded on the end, but might be able to run a tap in there, or possibly need to drill and tap it. Are these hardened steel, or should it tap fairly easily? Looking to put on AMT103 encoders and need a way to attach them.

    thanks again so much

There may be enough shaft length to fit a AMT encoder, (.4")?
Normally the shaft can be drilled and tapped, the problem is ensure no eccentricity.
