Check your stops and/or shock absorbers for the tool changer. What type of tool changer do you have? Not sure what you mean with the head rising, can you elaborate more? Are you talking about the Z axis?
couple of questions..
I dont use my Bridgeport much but when I do I leave the spindle empty after. I am experiencing a bang as the tool changer comes in to the spindle like there is no damping.. any ideas?

when the head rises initially or too soon after switching on, it trips the m/c out and have to power down to the wall. have to wind rapid down for first 5 minutes or so then its ok. would this be oil pressure?
generally the answer is probably to use more often but as its just for custom motorcycle parts our main work is in servicing and restoring.

yes the z drive. initially on start up it rises to zero then falls to designatd stop point. if it rapids up it errors up and have to power down to get to move.
likewise before much use and it settles in it will power down same way when it does a tool change as that goes up from previous use then back down to t/c position.
has a 12 tool magazine
The alarm message may give us a clue. What kind of way oil are you using? Temperature of the machine (don't say room temp, I have been in many shops with the doors wide open in the winter!)?
Z motor may need a rebuild. Especially if it is a SEM brush type DC motor.
