    Bridgeport head replacement

I have a Bridgeport series 1 I've had spindle issues with for years now. After fighting the battle for a while I've decided to try and buy a replacement head for it. I like the idea of a EVS type head but I'm open to whatever.... I just need to get this dinosaur resurrected. Any input will be greatly appreciated! The quill has galled... At one time I don't think it was getting oil. I have since pulled apart and cleaned the quill/bore several times. It runs fine for about ten hours then galls and locks up the z axis. I'm not looking forward to going through the same process for same results. Does anyone know where I can get an aftermarket bolt on head assembly. Thanks

You are not going to get a bolt on replacement unless it is a BP of the same type. That head is scraped to the mating surface. I know there is a company who will fix your quill. Try contacting Wells-Index and asking them if they can help you.

What do you mean scraped to the mating surface. I thought I saw a bolt on head from HH Roberts but it was for the smaller BP.... The six inch diameter bolt pattern. The quill bore is also galled... Probably Would need to remove the head and send the whole thing out?

Sorry... I fat fingered the send button on the iPad last post. Thanks for the help guys! I'm pretty good running these things but a moron when it comes to repair.

These heads are scrapped to the ram and held with 4 socket head bolts. BP trammed these heads by scrapping the mating surface. While a replacement is possible, it may be easiest to either have this one fixed (if possible) or better yet find a replacement head of the same style. It may be possible to hone the bore and rechrome the quill to get it to fit properly. Chances are that will be real expensive.

Oh, and if you get a new head and want to part this one out, I will be happy to pay you $$$ for some parts that I could use.
