Hello all, I just purchased an Interact 2 series 2 with a TNC 151 and I'm having trouble loading the tool offsets. Going by the manual I am supposed to jog the tool the the top of the work piece and press the program/edit button which looks like a square with an arrow inside. Then scroll with the arrow keys to the correct tool and transfer the value. I do all this and when I press the program/edit key there is no tool table. When I push the tooldef key I get and error that reads something like "key non-functional." Any help from you Bridgeport gurus is much appreciated. Thanks, Jason |

You might need to turn the tool table on in the machine parameters via the mod button. I had to. My parameter might be different because I have a tnc 360. When you set a tool use the position capture button. the one with a little dot in the center with arrows around it. Or you can do this. set your z datum first.. (set the longest tool to zero) touch off the longest tool to the top off the part and hit z button then zero. then touch off another tool.. look at the display and the z value will be a negative number. write that number down. enter that number directly in your program. With a tool def and length value. I program my machine in iso not conversational. So i am not sure what the line of code should look like. But i hope you get the idea. Hit the mod button enter code 95148 to access parameters go to MP7260 it is probably set to Zero machine parameter mp7260 if set to 0 no tool table up to 99 tools (set it to 99 and the tool table will be program zero) REMEBER THIS IS FOR A TNC-360 USE CAUTION. Look at the parameter first then edit Cheers Marcus

In my opinion the tool table is quite useful, even without a changer. Here's what I did on my Interact: Get yourself a Haimer Zero Master (or Taster). You will thank yourself forever. Mount the Haimer in a short holder permanently. Always use this to pick up work coordinates, and use it to set Z=0. Touch off or measure your tools after setting Z0 with the Haimer. Enter the values in the tool table. The tool table is battery backed up and can be backed up to your laptop using TNCRemo. All tools are now offset to the Haimer. Anytime you want to use a tool from NC or MDI, just do a Tool Call. Make sure you call Tool 0 before using the Haimer, if you forget and some other tool is active, it will offset the work by the length difference.

Hey guys, it's been a while since I programmed a machine and the last one I owned was a Haas. So I'm trying to get this TNC 151 up and running and I'm having some difficulty. There were no programs in the machine to use as a baseline and I keep getting a "gross positioning error a" fault. I'm sure it's something I'm doing wrong with the prep codes but not sure what. Does anyone have a sample program they could post? Maybe then I could see what the heck I'm doing wrong. Thanks for all the help' Jason

Jason,go to the Heidenhain site and download the manuals for that control. In the service manual you will get an explanation of what error A means as there are different classes of error. You will also get the parameter explanations and the possible settings for them. From that you will get an understanding of why you get that fault.

I tried a simple program to see what axis is causing the fault. It seems to be both x and y. Program looks like this: 0 BEGIN PGM 1 IN 1 TOOL DEF 1 L0.00 R+.375 2 LBL 1 3 TOOL CALL 0 Z S 4 L Z+1.700 R F5 M05 5 L X+0.00 R0 F5 M 6 L Y+0.00 R0 F5 M 7 LBL 0 8 STOP M25 9 END PGM 1 The z axis worked fine but the x gave me the "gross positioning error a" I swithched the x and y and got the same fault with the y axis. Am I missing something? Thanks, Jason
