Testing TC22 Parvex Motor

I am in need of someone that can test my Parvex Z-axis motor on another TC22 machine or that can provide an alternate method to analyzing my problem. The motor and the encoder have been tested and serviced but I still get a "Following Error" fault when the motor performs a Z-axis rapid. Typically in the positive direction. The motor shutters just before the "Following Error" fault. I have also observed a bounce at the end of a negative rapid move. I can't tell if this is due to lack of torque in the motor, faulty drive, or some type of disrupted feedback with the encoder. A-1 Servo Motor Repair performed the service on the motor and indicated that the permanent magnets did not require recharging because the BEMF measurement (48VDC) was within spec (52VDC +/- 10VDC). I really don't want to buy a different motor unless I know that is indeed the problem. If the motor is installed in another machine and the "Following Error" fault occurs in that machine, I think I can safely deduce that the problem is the motor. If not, I will move to the drive or the encoder and/or its cable.

In maintenance page, have you watched the following error? Both in + and - direction?
First watch the X and Y axis to see how they perform. Remember that the Parvex is about twice the size of the X and Y.
You may have to tweak the drive parameters. Do you have true 3 phase power?

Typically it happened during a program so I was not in the Maintenance Page. I tried to navigate there once while in a program but it wouldn't allow me to. To do this do I need to be in the Maintenance Page when I start the program? Never had any issues with X or Y but I will watch them. As it is supposed to, Z faulted at 0.05". When you say "in the + and - direction", are asking if the following error was either +0.05" and/or -0.05"? I will watch that again also. As far as I can remember, I have only witnessed it faulting in a positive rapid direction move. It even gave me a "Following Error" fault during a tool change once. I looked for a parameter that would adjust the acceleration. Looks like parameter 10 affects acceleration and deceleration but I have not made any changes to those because I could never find any information that explained what those variables change exactly. Same goes for parameter 11. Not sure what DLT ramp is. What parameters are you referring to? I have attached my BMDCPRMS file.

I have (Y) 230V Line 3 phase. Phase to Phase I'm getting 245VAC. L1 = 125VAC, L2 = 125VAC and L3 = 215VAC. Getting 96.5VAC out of T2 and 130VDC from the Axis Power Supply. I changed the connections at transformer T2 to match the 245VAC connections (4L3 to H1, 4L2 to H8, H1 to H5, and H4 to H8). Had no affect on the "Following Error" fault.

I noticed in the manual it states, "Transformer T2 is tapped at 92 VAC and 100 VAC. These two taps permit a choice of 128 or 140 VDC applied to the axis motor drive cards. The voltage may have to be selected to accommodate the weight of the Z axis when accelerating in the plus direction. The 92 volt taps are terminals 10 and 13. The 100 volt taps are terminals 17 and 18. To change voltages, change wire 1 from terminal 13 to terminal 18 and wire 3 from terminal 10 to terminal 17". Ever tried this?

George,

Were you able to find anything on adjusting the drive parameters?

Have not been by the office to look at my note file nor been in front of one to take a look.

Is what you are referring to considered "tuning the drive"?

What do you think about my approach of putting that motor in another machine? I fugure if I can put this motor in another machine and it does not produce the following error, I can at least eliminate the motor being the issue. On the other hand, if it does produce the following error on the other machine I'll know it is the motor and then I'll have to go back to the company that serviced the motor and encoder for me. Would you happen to know of someone that would be willing to run that motor in thier machine?
