explorer 1 mill .... retrofit ???

1st im looking at brining a part in house , right now they are either high deff plasma cut , or laser cut , im pondering the idea of plasma {i know i know, i had one before and it worked well} these parts range from 5/16" to 3/8th mild steel . they are flanges for exhuast systems .

so thats the part im looking to make now the question

im looking into mills . i found a good clean explorer 1 , not sure on exact operating system yet as im wheelin and dealin via email . but he thinks its dx32 ..... so my question is , how hard would it be to convert this to a newer operating system ?

and lastley , when i worked in a machine shop we mainly did graphite on the cnc mill . never any steel ....... how hard would this be on the mill , and would it be cheaper in the long run to just go plasma ?

any info would be greatly appreciated

thanks

It sounds like the part that you would like to make is fairly uncomplicated. Will this machine be dedicated to milling these parts in volume? What type of volume are you talking about?

I have a Bridgeport Explorer I with a DX-32 control. This machine would surly be capable. Unless you will be doing alot of programming you should be able to program with the DX-32.
