Hello, I have been in the trade since the early 80's. Toolmaker/machine builder. Have integrated/programmed Cinncinatti 776 Robots and Motoman units as well. Saw THE robot (786 gantry) that wrapped the carbon fiber on the stealth fighter up at Cinnci. Milacron. Decided to go on my own in 2005. Wow! Been pretty tough! I am going to convert a knee mill to CNC and have pretty much decided to go with a Centroid control and Elrod quill drive. I want a 2 or 3 axis machine. Mostly onesy twosy. I would like someones opinion on whose ballscrews to use. Elrod, Hiwin, or Anilam are the ones I have been looking at. Not worried about maximum traverse speeds, but longevity and quality. Hiwins screws are larger in dia., but yoke design not liked. Not sure about Anilam. Do they have a special yoke or does one use the stock unit? What about price differences? Also not sure about each ones preloading method. Double nut or single nut with fitted balls. Any of them preload adjustable for wear? I realize most wear occurs in the middle, so adjustability may be a moot point. Any advice is better than none. Experience is always the best teacher. Thank You, Tvan56 |
