I had a terrible accident with my spindle. I was facing a thin part of aluminium and when the 3" facemil began to exit the part, the part climb in the cutter an force down the cutter. The down force was so big that the drawbar wasn't strong enough to retain the cutter. The tool holder pass under the spindle key so it stop turning while the spindle is still running. Result: The tool holder and the spindle taper are burned whit big burrs. Only the top and the bottom of the spindle taper(cat 40 taper) is affected(about 1/2in each end). Is there something to do or spindle is dead? |

| Given the age of the mill and what happened after getting the taper reground I'd probably just pull the drawbar, chances are you will find cracked or broken bellville washers. Replace the whole stack, not just the broken ones. Make sure you put them back on the drawbar in the same order and the nut is tightened down just the same as it was before. |
