Anyone have a lead on an FMDC3 (1942581) board? Our V2XT (that we just put the new pentium PC in, just blew the FMDC board. Now I am thinking of gutting out the machine side of the control and going to Mach2/geckos, or fome other retrofit, if I cant find a board. ~$1600 to repair the board.....not sure its worth it. Hello, other than the obvious stuff such as smoke or burnt chips, how do you know the FMDC board is fried? What does the machine do, or not do? My machine stays in a reboot mode and does nothing, with all the lights on. I just can't tell what is actually wrong with it, FMDC or what? |

| Check your logic power supply and all connections to the FMDC board. What is the status of the LEDs on the top of the board? Are those 4 AA batteries in good shape? If you remove them, make sure the machine is on. What does the software load halt on? Any error message? You mentioned a pentium mother board. What is the processor speed on this? Attached is the LED error code list. George

Thanks George for the pdf file. Actually it was zcases that put in the new cpu. I was just asking how he knows it is the FMDC. On my machine, I don't know what is wrong with it, all the lights on the FMDC are lit up, it is like it is in a start up mode that doesn't reboot. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Brian |

| In theory, the FMDC has its own processor (Motorolla 68000). When powered up it goes through its own boot up and set of tests. This is obvious by the list of LED codes. It stops and waits for the software that it needs from the Floppy or hard drive through the mother board by way of a serial port. If all LEDs are lit, it should indicate a processor halt. But it may also be held in a reset state by the FPU card. See page 5-13 in the maintenance manual about this. If the mother board is booting and displaying video, then in all probability the logic supply is good. At least to the motherboard. I suggest the FPU board gets a good look at. George

| George, the motherboard does not boot up, and there is no video display on the CRT. I just flip on the power, and all the lights stay on immediately , even on the front control. No blinking or nothing. The only light that does not come on is the light on the EAF. Any knowledge of what to look for I would appreciate it. Brian |

| Need to apply the KISS principle. Unplug everything from the motherboard except power supply and video cable to CRT. If you have a meter check one of the white plugs. Red and black are 5VDC, yellow and black are 12VDC. See if the fan on the power supply is turning. If now you get video, start adding things, one at a time untill it fails. If not, how is the power? Is the CMOS set up correctly. What kind of monitor do you have? The original was an EGA. The pentium may expect a VGA. George

| We think that we are not communicating with the FMDC. The V2XT software is not booting. The PC boots up fine in windows though. I am going to check the com port today on the FMDC and the motherboard for a good verification. EMI (who supplied our patched software to run with the new pentium PC) has helped us troubleshoot it to this point where signs point to the FMDC. Thanks all Scott |

| This machine did not come with windows. There was an enhanced performance option that upgraded everything and included windows 3.1. Note that this is a DOS machine. It is meant to boot in DOS and then there is a batch file (F key) to go to windows. This may be part of the problem. George

| On my sheet of FMDC LED error codes: the 14th one down, shows the 1st, 2nd (both green), 4th (yellow), and 8th (green) lit. No ground reading on Analog to Digital Converter ( IC-56, input 1). George
