I know this will sound really idiotic but heres my situation and question. I recently was presented with a unique opportunity where I have approximately $15000.00 to find a CNC machine but to be honest, I really dont know what im looking at. Im currently going for degree in CAD for fun while finishing up a undergraduate history degree and would really like to find a solid reliable machine. I know the basics but really could use some help. Im looking for something I can use to make injection molds and fix up. I see machines like this mentioned on other boards as "a steal", but how can you tell? Bridgeport E-Z Trak 2 Axis CNC Mill | eBay Can you guys steer me in the right direction? I wouldnt normally just buy something to buy it but if I dont soon the opportunity will not present itself again for a very long time. Thank you for your help and your patience. |

| 1st off, get a 3 axis machine. Used dealers are either very good, or very very bad. I might know where a 3 axis bridgeport copy is in San Francisco, mid/late 2000's machine with about 40 hours on it. Had a nice control, although I can't remember which one. Thing is like new, the shop is downsizing it's prototype department. I would guess it to be in the 12-14K range. |

| At one of my previous employers, we picked up a brand new Accu II knee mill retrofit with a 3-Axis Centroid M-400 controller, for under $10k. ![]() The only thing it was lacking was a coolant system and CNC control over the spindle. On/Off and Vari-speed had to be done by hand. |
