Hello: Still in the market for a used CNC with my prohibited budget. How much is a fair price for an R2E3 in good condition? The unit is a series II. I was thinking 2-3k Also I am finding mixed weight estimates on the internet, does this unit weigh 3500 or 5000 lbs? I need to contact my house builder to see if the foundation is rated for that much concentrated ground pressure. Lastly, how tall is the R2E3 series II? I believe I have an 8ft garage ceiling, if this unit is worth it, I could modify that... Thank you! |

The two weights are because the R2E3 came as a series 1 and series 2 with different tables available. The series 1 is stated to weigh in at 3550lbs and is 86.5" tall. Series 2 is a larger machine with box ways with a weight of over 5000lbs, table 38 x 15 work surface (total table 47 x 17 with three 5/8 slots 4 3/8 on center. I have no height information for a series 2. The control system is a Boss 8 thru Boss 10 ?. This control is a 3D control, great canned cycles and ability to drip feed dnc thru port b RS232 from a computer and store smaller programs in memory. To change to mach or other it seems most people are changing out the servos and stripping most of the cabinet hardware except for the power controls. As far as price....varies with wear, control still working (no upgrade required at this time) and location. If you need more information do not hesitate to PM

I would say that if you find one that is in a provably working condition with little visible wear, 2-3k would be a fair price to pay. If it is a mill that the seller "cannot run", or a broken control, but with visibly good ways, no major rust, etc I would say 1.5k. I bought mine for $500, it had a non-working control, though the seller thought that it was a bad display. But it was in early 2010, still coming out of a major recession. i

The last thread you guys helped me with, the seller refused to give me my offered price and he sold it. I dont know what he sold it for, I am so glad I did not pay for that other one. Now for the current machine I am interested in, it IS local, and I will visit it this weekend to see how much wear is on it. But he wants 11,000$ for it! For that much I can get a VMC. Lets hope hes more cooperative than the last seller.

I completely agree with your price suggestions and appreciate the help. I am just glad I did not fold and pay more than what it was worth. Lets hope this seller is more understanding. He cannot show the machine under power either... 11k sounds insane for a price.

If not under power, do not offer anything above what you are prepared to pay knowing that you will replace the control (you can test wear and play without power) but all else is questionable. So much down and so much when powerred up, would be better. (clause for if it fails also should be written as you have had the expence of the move. 11000 for a Boss R2E3 seems very high, even from an owner that likes his mill.
