    BP Spindle Not coming out.

I am trying to remove the spindle on my series 1 2hp J head vari speed cnc bridgeport.

I have removed the set screw and the nose and can easily tap the spindle out to just a little more than one bearing. After that nothing budges. I even tried locking the spindle in the table vise and dropping the table, but the quill wants to come with it. (I hope I didn't destroy anything doing that)

Now I am at a loss. According to the manual that came with the machine and the searches on this site I have done everything necessary. The spindle should be falling out at this point, but it hits a brick wall and will not move any further.

    Any ideas??

Don't know the answer, but I've not been able to get mine out either. Am looking forward to your solution.

When I pulled the spindle on my BTC-1 I had to do more than tap it to get it out.

We're very familiar with Series 1 Variable Speed heads. By chance can you upload a picture of it? Chances are we can definitely give you some pointers on this issue you're experiencing, we just want to see an exact picture to get a better idea. CNC isn't our forté per se but we do know Bridgeport very well. Cheers.

    Have you removed the drawbar

The only thing, that most likely is the problem, you have some burrs on the top of the spindle shaft were the spline is,This is were the drawbar usely sits, if this has burrs on it at all, it will not go through the drive splines

It has not really moved out far enough for it to be a burr on the spline that is stopping it
But the drawbar will if that is still in place

This sounds like a manual machine if the quill moved out, a cnc boss type the quill would not move out, It could be just tight in the top spindle support bearing
