Problems trying to get my Intract series 1 connected to PC for data transfer.

    Hi,

I have an old Bridgeport series 1 Interact which Im trying to get connected to my PC so I can upload programes from ContourCam. Im pretty sure my serial cable is ok but Im using a usb to serial adapter cable and dont know if this could be causing problems. Ive set the adapter up in control panel to what Im pretty sure are the correct settings.

When I press the ext button on the TNC145 controller I get an error message saying "EXT. IN-/OUTPUT NOT READY". What does this mean?

Also I keep seeing something called REMO mentioned. Can someone tell me what remo is/does and wether I need it.

Any help or advice on getting machine up and running would be really appreciated.

    Cheers.

    Rich.

What settings are you using for your emulated serial port? 9600, 8, n, 1 (a generic example)?

I have a bit of an update.

I have now managed to program the contoller and tranfer the program to the pc and then back up again use Remo. My next problem is the post processor Im using. All the spacing is incorrect between the coords ect so the controller doesnt recognise the data. After ready some of your posts on other threads gus it seems the worst case is is that Ill have to progam the controller manually and just transfer the program to pc to store it, which is better than having to program it maually every time. I was hoping to be able stream/drip feed larger programs but after a lot of searching it doesnt seem to be possible with my controller.

D-Monkey - I cant remember all the settings of top off my head. As gus says baud rate 2400, polarity even, hand shake is short circuited( think thats how its refured to) in Remo. I can check at work though today.

Ahh, let's see 2400 baud, 7 data bits, even parity, 1 stop bit = 2400, 7, E, 1 Wasn't too hard to find on Google.

145 'needs' the formatting correct, it cannot read a 151 program.

If you 'really' need to program offline, it might be possible to use a spreadsheet or somesuch to align the columns

Trying to setup Windows 95 to communicate with Bridgeport Series 1 with Boss 4 controller for a neighbor.
He said it worked before but the computer crashed and I have no idea how it was setup before.
Tried Hyperterminal with several different com port settings, no luck.
Do i need to install a program on the computer?

I worked as a machinist in the late 50's at the Bradfoote Gear Works and I work on computers now but no experience with CNC.
Back then programming meant changing the gears in the gearbox :-)
