I really like the ability to go manual or 2d cnc with manual Z that Elrod machine offers. I really like thier product except (besides the price) you seem to stuck with thier software and control. Can I get the same functionality from Mach2/3 ie use the X and Y asis as CNC while using the Z axis manually on simple one shot parts? Thank you very much. Steve Confused but happy crank turner. |

| Yes you can. As I understand Elrod's offering, you can just buy the X-Y and/or Z drives, if you want, with or without the motors. The more stuf you don't buy, the more work you need to do of course. So using MachX with some servo / stepper drive from Gecko, Rutex, Xilotex, etc. and the Sound Logic or Gecko interfaces (Gecko is not shipping the G101 quite yet) you can get there from here. If you haven't yet done so, check out the geckodrives group over at Yahoo and CAD_CAM_EDM_DRO and DIY_CNC and the Mach group. Can't recall the name just now....... -jd |

| I'm using Elrod components on my Bridgeport Clone. It sure was a lot less work to install than JDelaney has put in. (But it was also a lot more money, I assume.) I'm using Jon Elson's PicoSystems controllers and EMC software. I bought 3 ReliancesServos for about $600 (total). I haven't cut any significant steel yet, but this thing can sure move a lot of aluminum in a hurry. I'm pleased. Ken
