bridgeport mill series1 boss 4?

I have a bridgeport mill series1 boss 4? and are trying to retrofit a stepper cnc pacage from cam soft but are having problems. It kinda moves when I try to move it, it moves one step or .0001. Does the bridgeport mill series1 boss 4? use step and direction in stepper cards that are driving the origenal stepers I am trying to spend the least amount$
anny help will be great
Thanks jerid1

I believe they use a different system. It still works with a parallel port, but I think it's phase drive. I can't imagine that mach2 doesn't support it. I know that EMC does support it.

FYI: As a function of the amount of poles, ball screw pitch, and pulley ratios, the BOSS 3, 4, and 5 step in .001 inch steps. The BOSS 6 steps in .0005 inch steps.

As I said before, the Bridgeport uses phase drive. From what I understand, this means you are sending the pattern for bipolar half-step drive out the parallel port for each axis. I would think there are other options, but EMC is the only one that has it supported for sure. If you go to http://linuxcnc.org you can find out more about EMC. The user's handbook can be downloaded from http://sherline.com/emc/User_Handbook.pdf

I checked in the Mach handbook and only saw a discussion of step/dir interface. There is no reason why it couldn't use phase drive, but I guess Art hasn't felt that there was a need.
