    R2E4 Tapping?

Reading through my R2E4 Series 2 manuals, it says the machine is capable of tapping. It isn't clear from the manuals whether it can rigid tap though. Does anyone know if it can? If not, what would be a decent tapping attachment at a reasonable price?

    Thanks for the help!

The R2E4 could reverse the spindle. It used the G84 tap cycle. The spindle drive is the S1STD type vari-drive. Because the spindle speed is NOT electronically governed, because there is no spindle speed encoder feedback to the control, it CANNOT sync the Z axis to the S (spindle) axis. Thus it cannot rigid tap. Use a compression/expansion spring type tap holder.
