Bridgeport Discovery 308 DX32 upgrade/retrofit

Hello,

I have a BP machine discovery 308 DX32. The hard drive must have lost some info because it wouldn't start. I have tried to find the software but I am thinking about some sort of upgrade or retrofit.

What can you suggest? is there any retrofit kit that's easy to install?

I am an engineering student and my boss thinks I should know how to fix the problem, which I don't. It'd be great if someone explains or sends a link on how the machine works, just a general description of the main components and how they work together.

I also have a BP Discovery 308 with DX32 control. I did a backup on mine but don't know if it is what I would need to reinstall it. Mine does have DOS 6.22 and I have a set of that too...

Does it have a hard drive or a flash drive?

Does is power up at all?

Does the 24v buss have power?

Did you check the fuses at the bottom of the electrical cabinet?

If mine takes a dive I'd install a new computer and EMC2 with Mesa control cards. Mine has a Siemens Simodrive 611 in it.

Thank you Jhon,

the machine does have a hard drive (which is broken now and found a similar one but I do not have the recovery disks). Machine does power up and fuses are ok.

Where do I find the 24v buss? Haven't checked that one yet.

the BP here must be the same you have because it also has a Siemens simodrive 611.

Do you have a manual or something that tells me specifications of everything inside the cabinet. I have no idea what each component is or does.

could I get a copy of what you backed up? I want to try that as a last resource before I think about a retrofit. Maintenance manual or anything that might help me fix it?

All the manuals I have are hard copies. I can scan important pages. I'd love to get an electronic copy too. Let me know how that comes out.

My machine does not have the probe hardware option other than that it is stock. I need to put another hard drive in mine and test the backup copy then I'll be glad to share it with you.

When you power it up does anything light up in the electrical cabinet? There is a row of fuses (on my machine anyway) on the bottom shelf. Check them and if one is blown it is cheaper to replace them with breakers than buy more fuses.

I'm on the #EMC channel on freenode IRC all day (gmt -6). If you don't know what that means then go to LinuxCNC.org - Home (The EMC2 web site) and pick the Community tab then in the IRC paragraph pick embedded java client and your there.

what OS is the machine supposed to run with?

I have managed to find an old hard drive that'd work. I have tried loading DOS 5.0, 6.0 and 6.22. The only that seems to work is the 6.0 so far. I think I am missing some sort of information because the machine does not move.

What, besides de DOS, does the machine need to run?

I think my best shot is to find a backup copy of a working machine, load it in the new hard drive and hope it works. If anyone can do that for me I'd appreciate it.

I see you missed me on the IRC yesterday. Try again.

What your missing is the DX software I assume.

Shoot me your e-mail and I'll send you what I have.

When you power up does the green board in the middle of the cabinet have some lights on it?
