I have a Bridgeport 2J with the old ProtoTrak 2 axis system (not EZ Trak). I'm planning to convert it to the Centroid system using the existing motors and ball screws. I'd like to add a third axis using the Elrod quill drive. I'd also like to add a VFD. My question is, with the above modifications, how many parts can I leave out of the head when I rebuild it? Obviously with the Elrod drive the existing quill feed mechanism goes away. What about the variable speed belt drive, can that be simplified if I can control motor speed and direction with the VFD? Thanks in advance, Jim Last edited by jph; 09-09-2010 at 07:48 PM. Reason: misspelling |
