1984 Bridgeport DRO upgrade

So the situation is that one of the scales on the heidenhein dro that shipped with our bridgeport has gone south and it's replacement time.

We've had a quote from someone who can fix the scale, but it's pretty similar money to upgrading the whole dro system with some chinese wonder scales.

We're not using this in an everyday production shop, it's just a weekend (few at that) garage toy for knocking custom car bits out on so we don't need something that will take 10hr days of abuse, just some reasonable priced kit that will do cool stuff like holes on a pcd and other such things.

I'm interested to hear from anyone who's had experience with the chinese dro kits, and would value any input folk can give on the 'stick with the heidenhein or replace it with new' question.

I have 2 Miesters and one Sino and haven't had a problem in 4 years. All the guys that I know, and have read of have not had any problems either.

Well it turns out that fixing dro scales is another thing our shop EE can do! So we gave it to him and all is now well. Just got to have a look at the power feed unit now.
