I am a newbie in the bigger spindles. I wknow about R8 ER32 etc. I recently bought a R2E3 Series I. I had understood that the tooling was Kwik switch 200... I just tried the 200 tooling in the unit and it does not fit. Its too small. It seems a Cat 30 fits the taper but of course does not lock in. Any ideas is there a Kiwk switch 300 ??? I guess I also have some kwik switch 200 to dispose of :-) Thanks Dave |

| The R2E3 came with 2 different spindles. The QC30 and the quick switch 200. The QC30 can be identified by the fact that the end has a 1/2-13 thread for the use of a power draw bar. The flange around the major diameter is 360 degrees less the two areas that accomodate the drive keys. The quick switch 200 tool holder does not have the thread on the end and there is no flange around the major diameter. Instead it has two projections that fit inside the spindle nut. The unique thing about the quick switch was that it had two springs in the nut and a trip pin. When the tool holder was inserted, it would push on this pin and the nut would spring closed. I repaired quite a few of these pins. They had a habit of breaking. The QC30 was the more common spindle used. George

George, Thanks for the information. I will try to post a picture as based on your information and my other research it should be quiik switch. It seems to want a toolholder that has two ears. The bottom line is the quik switch 200 does not seem to fit. |

| NO! The series 2 BOSS 6, R2E3 and R2E4 actually had a series 1 head on a base made to support a lot more weight. The quill is too small in diameter to accomodate a 40 taper spindle. The 40 taper was available on the series 2 NC, the series 2 standard and maybe the interact 4 and BTC2 ( I would have to verify those two). George

| George, You are correct QC30 seems to fit. I checked the usual reference on tapers that claims the NMBT30 taper and QC30 is the same. I bought a NMTB30 toolholder and found that it did not fix. It seems the flange ring is slightly bigger preventing the taper to engage. I have doen some searching and have found very few people that are selling the stuff. On ebay people seem to thing NMTB30 and QC30 are the same but my experiences seem to show differnet. The bottom line and the million dollar question is where do we get this apparently elusive tape that is suppossed to be the most common taper on these machines.??? Other Than APT (Michicgan Drill) who makes the stuff??? Thanks Dave |

| George, We have already checked with our local Kennemetal people and they cannot find any information..... Before I insert the second foot into my mouth I just checked Kennametal online and in fact see some stuff. I have never been pleased with the local expertise. Now I have part numbers that I can chase and beat them with :-) :-)Dave |
