Best Location for E-Stop/s

Hi

I am just doing a refit on a BP clone. Going to be using Mach 3 so there will be a soft E-stop on the PC screen but I am going to wire in one or more of the physical buttons on the machine.

What do people generally think is the best location or locations for the E-Stop switch? and why ?

Any thoughts appreciated.

Thanks

Paul

Buy me a Beer?

Anywhere within easy reach when operating the machine.
I have mine on the operator panel.
It's said that the E-stop is always the hardest button to find!

I think one other thing to consider is dont just put the E-Stop back to Mach only, it needs to stop things via hardware as well as going back to Mach and doing a software E-Stop.

I mounted one at knee height! I can slap that sucker either by hand or with my leg. Came in real handy one time when I did something stupid and would have put me in harms way to reach one up on a control panel.

Thanks for the replies folks.

I have spent time working up a circuit diagram over the past couple of days and the E Stop buttons will be connected to the coil on the estop contactor, that will cut spindle power but it still relies on the Ajax controller to halt servos and programs.

At the moment, the 2 logical locations for the actual buttons are on one end of the table guard (the end where I tend to operate from) and another on the front of the guard so I can jump in quickly if I am at the bench rather than at the machine.

I'll post a pic once it's sorted.

All the best

Paul

I do the same as Bubba, that you can knee it or slap it- also helps when you have to duck... incomming!
