Just started milling on my restored & CNC'd 66' J headBP. I am cutting some 1018 steel with a 1/2" 2fl carbide end mill. I think I have the speed and feed dialed in for slot cutting, what I don't know is how one figures the plunge feed rate. What % of the horizontal feed rate does one use when doing a straight plunge cut? How aobut for a ramp? Thanks, Craig |

| G-Wizard takes the horizontal feed rate and divides by number of flutes to get to a plunge rate. The more flutes, the less chip clearance you have, so you have to take it easy. Cheers, BW
