It is convenient and neat to have the tank in the base, but it is actually a DUMB idea. I have an old refrigerator hydrator - an enameled steel pan, so you know how OLD that one is! - sitting next to the machine. When it is time to clean it out, you just pick it up and carry it to the sink for a good scrubbing. You can probably get a decent tank at WalMart or whatever, although the coolant and oils may eventually make some plastics brittle.
