Well it seems like once you drag a dead machine home (HURCO Hawk 5) - everybody calls you with their dead machines ... I am going to look at a 1993 V2XT next, how do I tell/know if it is a BMDC or a FMDC based system?? It just went dead on them and they quit using it! I am a rookie at the things but a quick study. Thanks for any info. |

| I have posted pictures in the archives at the V2XT YAHOO groups of a FMDC board and a BMDC board. With that knowledge, you can look at the machine and tell. George

| Just was able to look. It is Serial number XT-638 I think the batteries are dead as it will not boot after I power it on after moving it. This is the same problem they had with it after shutting down power to the plant (hence the reason I have it now). Do I have to manually reload information to it or is it stored on the hard drive somewhere. New to the Bridgeport game so ANY info is great!! |

| Search the forum. There are MANY posts about this. The mother board has a CMOS battery that keeps alive the parameters for the time, date, type of floppy, hard drive type (cylinder, heads, sectors), etc. You lose these and it may not boot because the mother board does not know what is attached to it and how to talk to those devices. The original MB has a NiCad battery soldered to it in the vicinity of where the keyboard plugs in. It will go bad and leak out the potassium hydroxide (lye) electrolyte and eat the mother board rendering it worthless. It probably needs replacing and then the machine needs to be on a while to charge the battery. The CMOS will have to be set. The machine software is on a hard drive. If the battery is good and the CMOS set correctly, but you still have boot issues, the hard drive may be at fault. It may have bad sectors or may have a boot sector virus. These were very common when the machine first came out. George

| Battery looks good - not leaking that is- still needs changed I am sure - no voltage reading from it. I reset the CMOS -using the default settings, I don't know if that is right of not But after I set the custom hard drive setting correctly- IT BOOTED UP!! There is still alot I need to learn about it though. |
