18" of x is just a little bit too short. Been thinking long and hard about this and luckily the machine uses bolt in linear rails. I looked under the splash covers and I can extend the rails 4.25" on each end and probably get the same sized ballscrew, reset the limits in the program and get @25-26" of travel out of this thing. The rails bolt to the table, the bearings bolt to the Y axis frame. I'm thinking the deal killer will be the ball screw pitch. I'm sure the linear rails are still available even if expensive (we use them at work on the machines) Opinions? Jamie |
