Default Removing power from a Interact 412

When I remove power and air from my Bridgeport Interact 412, the spindle drops down.

I have been told I have to place a wooden block under the spindle before I shut it down to prevent this.

I have heard opinions on both sides....that this is normal and it is not normal. I am looking others who have an Interact 412 and their experience with this.

As a sidenote...if I leave the air on the spindle will still drop down when power is removed.

Sounds like your brake is not holding on the Z axis motor

Any thoughts on how I can verify the operation of the brake or common failures with it?

    Thanks

    The brake is adjustable.
You can stand on the table and reach the Z servo above the head. You shouldn't be able to turn it by hand when the power is off

It is common the spindle drops about .020 when removing power from both my 412 machines. I believe it says this in the manual.
