    You may be able to use a large treadmill motor, 2.5 to 3.5HP.

    Well, looks like bad news for the motor. I tore it apart again just to double check my work, and didnt find any issues, however when using my meter, there is some continuity to earth from the commutator. I can assume this means its got some bad insualation somewhere in the windings, causing a short to ground. Off to the motor shop she goes.

    If you have it rewound, then at least they will fit a new COM if available.
