Bridgeport Series II Vari-Drive Belt Change

Hey folks,


I'm trying to replace the vari-drive belt on my Series II (4HP). The manual that I have shows the motor hanging below the head, whereas mine (and every picture of one I've ever seen) is mounted on top. I've got the lower motor pulley free, but can't slide it off because it interferes with the housing. Do I need to take the motor off to change this belt?


Also, do any of these things actually have the motor hanging beneath the head?

Dont know about the series2, but the series1 certainly has a underslung motor. Thankfully...

I don't know if you can change the belt without removing the motor, but here are instructions for the motor removal. They also have instructions for other common things and are a good source for parts and you can call and ask technical questions.
