    Helical Ramp Toolpath

    Hello

I am wanting to machine the outside of the profile in the attached file using a helical ramp toolpath if possible. Does anyone know if ths can be done in Bobcad?

The stock is 3 3/4" stainless 316L. I am currently machining in 1mm deep steps, to a depth of 65mm, at 2000 rpm and 3000mm/min feed with a 5 tip, 32mm dia tool, but each feed in gives me a "hard" entry, & shortens the life of the tips.

    Thanks in advance

Here is a link with a file in it where John created a path like this:

There can be some other methods like using the HSP and creating a pocket that will provide the ramped toolpath in a single stroke.

    Thanks BurrMan,

Managed to get the tool ramping down almost as I want, It travels 360 deg anti-clockwise, then 360 deg clockwise, until it reaches the bottom of the part, and I am saving about 1min. per run.

I asked Bobcad about HSP, but thes suggested it wasn't suitable for the part.

Yeah the profile feature doesnt do ramping so all the suggestions will be "ways to make it work" kind of things. I dont have any good suggestions but I have seen others do this with different methods.

Read the posts the link you provided & produced a z-level finish toolpath, worked perfectly using ramp entry and s-links, lost a further minute
