Hi, I have a small rectangle that I need to pocket to a final depth of .21". I need a 45 degree taper on one end with the other three walls being straight 90 degree angles. I have tried the taper tool but the help section gives an example that includes islands plus there are tapers on all sides. I only need a taper on one side and I can't get a handle on how to go about it. I need a walk through if somone finds time. I want to try a .08" end mill bit. I use V21. Thanks in advance, BillJ |

| This is an instance that v23 is much better at handling. But here's how I would do it in v21: 1. Model the pocket in 3D (at least the tapered end). 2. Open the CAM window 3. Create a pocket toolpath using 3 vertical sides and the base of the 45 deg. wall. 4. Set your depth/ruf steps in the CAM U/D window 5. Use CutAuto to generate pocket code 6. Use Solids > Generate Toolpath > Planar to finish the 45 deg. wall. (May need to define a boundary first to contain the toolpath.) If you're stuck, post some more pocket dimensions and I can help. moldmker |

| Thanks for the help. You got me moving in the right direction. Here is how it worked for me using V21. Taper – Draw a 3D wire frame, select Solids, then create a planer surface. Next, select NC and select 3D then select Tool Depth and F Speeds. Next using the shift key select the rectangle and finally select Cut Auto. Thank You! BillJ |

| Thanks for the response. I have a lot to learn about pocketing methods. This one sided taper is the first time I've tried or needed an angled pocket. I think I have the 2D side of things down fairly well but creating 3D G-Code is a new deal for me. BillJ |
