Lathe Post giving crazy numbers

when I post to out Haas lathe, the post...at the very end shows some crazy LARGE dimensions for I and J in the circular moves. This is on a part 2" dia. with a couple of grooves 1/2" wide and 1/8" deep with radii in the corners. I've only pasted the section of code where the problem shows up. Just wandering if anyone has seen this before and what did you do the fix it?

Lynn,

Have not messed w/ BobCad since the Demo V-17 days. But does it give an option to use an R value as opposed to the I/K/J values? If so, might toggle that on and see if you get better results.

Regards,
Paul

If there is a setting for R values, I can't find it. Oddly enough, it seems to run ok in verify mode, but when i send it to the machine, it freaks out. I'll call Bobcad and see what they can do, it's my understanding that they will work with post issues and I'm pretty sure thats where the problem is.

Thanks for the help though!

Open the post in a text editor.

Go to line 242. it should look like this: 242. Arc center a=absolute, b=incremental, d=unsigned inc., e=radius? b

Change the letter at the end to e and save the file.

Then repost. You should now get Radius output.

I have seen these occur as well. It will most commonly happen when you have the Collision detection turned on.

The One,

If I understand you correctly, I was to change the b to an e ? Line 242 was exactly as you said, but changing the letter to an e didn't fix the problem unless I'm doing something wrong. I did repost and I'll try again, but I'm pretty sure I got it right.

And thanks for the help.

Note: I double checked and the "e" is saved to the post. I also tried with collision detection off. THAT worked! Now, my question is.... am I going to crash something without the detection?

Lynn,
I have seen alot of issues with the collision detection on, I always leave it off. You should not crash as long as you know that your tool is the correct tool for the operation that your doing.
For example, you need to use a grooving tool for a deep groove and not a standard turning tool. The turning tool will "crash" trying to get into the groove while the grooving tool is designed to be able to cut deep grooves without crashing.

thx mmc, I haven't got the chance to run the program yet, somebody else has the machine tied up (it has conversational programming as well). The simulation looks good though and the large radii numbers are gone in the post.

Thanks for the help EVERYBODY.

Lynn,

Try changing the letter to a capital "E". Sometimes that is the problem with converting over to radius.

The other option is to do a find and replace in the post. Replace all instance of "rcenter" with "arc_center". There are many variables in the posting engine that do the same thing, only slightly different, and this could be the cause to the lack of R values.

As far as crashing, you really have to take the geometry into consideration. If there are areas on the part that you could accidentally cut into with the backside of tool then you need to have it on. If it is just a simple turned profile, you should be fine.

Regards
