| machining block letters i have sunk block letters into a solid .012 deep for a logo. some are .031 wide some are .125 wide(larger size). whats the best way or toolpath to machine them in bobcad. do i have to pick each one individually and machine one at a time. my toolpath crashes through the solid to the next letter. on some of them. z level finish v22. the block letters were extracted from the solid to leave an impression in the block for depth of detail. | If the letters are flat on the bottom, then the best bet would be to do a pocket for these letters. If you are running v22 you will want to create a pocket feature for every letter as to control the machine order. V23 you would only need one pocket feature because you can optimize the tool path between pockets - in other words have it cut in a logical order - If you are having an issue with the Z level I would check the solid. But you really wouldn't want to run a Z level anyway because you'll have a really hard time ( with out editing the code ) to get the software to cut at the bottom of the surface. Not sure for Z level finish but the rough will not cut at the bottom of a surface it's always just a little bit off. Example if you had a pocket in a solid that z's position was Z-1.26 or something like that. The Z level rough will not cut to Z-1.26. You would think you could just take that depth a divide by number of passes and have it finish that bottom surface, but nope that doesn't work it still off. So in order to finish a flat you need to run a 2D pocket for finishing. |
