Cool single line v-carving

Is there a way working with v.21 and bob-art to trick the software to produce single line 3d toolpath to be use with a v-cutter ? (Numbers for signs). Or is the manual way I use in the attachement the only way with bob-cad?

you can draw the 3d path and the turn on the 3d on cam side select "Auto" under machine menu...If there is one thing that V22/23 did improve a great deal on is Bobart...If you use Bobart alot an upgrade my be worth it to you...In V23 they add a V cut option to the 3D tool paths...I don't work for Bobcad so I don't care if you upgrade...that is up to you...

Cool single line v-cutter

If you emboss with a line patern and a 45 degree angle, with substract operation, the emboss model actually show you the path a v-cutter should take to carve with a single pass. It seem to me all the information should be there somewhere ... where are you bob-cad gurus? dont let vetric win. Upgrading is out of the question. I dont want to spend an eternity routing a number ,a single pass with a 90degree v-cutter is what I want , can t compete any other way.

Have you tried using a pocketing operation or even a single line font? Just a question, I am not familiar with V21.

Claude,

V21 is not capable of generating the toolpath that you are after for these letters. There is no easy way around this. You can always draw the path you want the tool to follow and use the Cut Auto with 3D turned on, but that can be tiresome.

V23 is capable of generating the path you want however. I have attached an image of the toolpath generated in V23. I used your file, but the space that is between the edges required that the tool be a bit large (0.62" diameter), otherwise it would have been easier to pocket with a small endmill and then follow up with a smaller V Tool.

Regards

I am also wanting to use a v-bit in bc21, is there anyway to put a v bit in the tool library and then when you use the simulation have it cut showing how the v-bit would cut.

You can use a v cutter in V21.

Are asking to put text on a surface in 3D? And cut with a v tip cutter?

If this is the case you can project text "single line" down on a surface so you get a 3D tool path and just use your V tip cutter.

It's not V carving like in the v23 Bobart, But I think it will do what you want.

I have bc 20.6, sorry forgot what version I have. But I am wanting to use the simulation in the cad side with single line text, in the tool library i can show it cut with a .25" endmill or a .50" or ballend but cannot figure out how to show a v bit in the tool library to where it actually shows a v bit when you use the simulation. Hopefully this makes some sense

Hey Rob,
I think the issue would be to have the toolpath know how to "retract" the V bit to make tips of fonts come to a point. V23 has a new toolpath that does this.

Does V20 have ramping? could try to make each font seperately with a ramp in and out? I could be being stupid here.

Burr

I know in V21 you can define your own tool geometry. Not sure of V20 or if it would then show the tool you draw in the simulation. Couldnt find the V21 manual on the web that explained this but you could look in your help file to see if there is anything on "Drawing tool".

The V20 or V21 will not simulate a V tip cutter. It only support ball bull and end mills.

So if you want to run a simulation you of the v tip cutter you 'll have to use some other software.

The predator editor would do this.
