I put the tool in the middle of the groove at the end of a line. bring it down slow, I go .001 in ss and ,005 in alum. When you get to the depth you want (don't try to do it in one pass as to break the endmill.)Then just use cutter comp, I use cutter left, go to the start of the line you came in at on the left. , comp around, take off cutter comp using half the groove with for lead out, cutter comp the other side going the other way. I can hold a groove to .0005 in width doing it with cutter comp, but not using comp, you have to have the endmill size, and any other variable that will make the cutter run out . This is only possilble with version 20 using the profile contour by the way. I don't think the earlier versions were capable of setting comp very good. |
