| Draw half of your dome profile then do a revolve surface revolve. 1. Change your view to the Front View (X/Z plane) and then change your USC plane to Front (X/Z). This gets your dome to rise on the Z axis. 2. Draw a circle with the center at X0, Y-2.5625 (radius - .5"). This will set the top of your dome .5" high. (Remember that you still are drawing with the values of the Top UCS, X right to left, Y up and down as you lok at the screen). 3. Draw a vertical line down the Y axis. 4. Draw a horizontal line down the X axis. 5. Trim the lines and circle to get your profile. 6. Use the surface revolve to revolve your profile into a dome. Hopefully this helps. Step 2 through 6 are attached so that you can see the settings for the operations. Steve |

Steve, It worked. Thanks very much. Another question. What if I wanted to place a ring around the dome? The ring would be .125 tall with a max dia. of 7.25. in other words, the dome would look lie it were sitting on top of said ring but it would all be one object. Thanks. Joe |

| steve, I used your same approach and figured out how to make what I was after. If I knew how to make thumbnail sketches I would post them but I don't. That was really cool how you gave me those step by step instructions with the attached thumbnails. Was that hard to do? Joe |

| Joe, I just did ATL-PRINT SCREEN after each step of the drawing. This copies the window that has focus to the clipboard. (Hopefully BobCAD. ) I then open up the Windows Paint program and paste in the contents of the clipboard to create an image of the BobCAD window. Then I save that to a file. Step1.jpg, etc... And repeat. Then you attach all of those image files to the post message. (The little paper clip icon). It's not hard, it's just not readily apparent. It seems like a lot of steps but after doing it a few times, it becomes second nature. I'm glad it helped you out and also that you figured out what else you needed. Sometimes, a picture really is worth a thousand words. Steve |

stampede and orizaba, Did you see the steps that Steve (smurph) gave about half way down this thread? He gives step by step instructions along with thumbnails of the actual screens that need to be used. If you are wondering where the revolve surface icon is located it should be located in the bottom row of icons on the left hand side. Remember that it is important to change to the front view and change the UCS to the front x/z option so that when you draw the side view of your dome it will end up being raised in the "z" axis. If you read Steve's post and still don't get it post back here and I will try to set up a time to talk with you by phone and see if we can't get you through this. Joe |

| Joe: Thanks for the reply, I've read the post. I have the all the steps except the surface revolve. I don't understand what needs to be done. What should I pick first or fill out, what are CAPS? If you could, give a step by step procedure. Like choose the z axis, then click OK, click the x axis, then click Ok. I'm not at work, right now. This is driving me nuts. Thanks. |
