Z finish question Last night while using the z finish, I needed an XY move then a -z but it did it as a combined move, leaving a nice little ramp. subsequent moves were correct. When I looked closely at the tool path, it shows the move within the part. When I recalculated the tool path, it as still there. It didnt ruin the part, but might next time. How do I prevent this with out looking at each line of code? ![]() Matt

Did you mess with the Process by Level and Process by Area to see if it made any difference in toolpath? Sometimes even changing Cut Amount by a little will alter the paths. The toolpath may have ramped just because it was in an area that would be machined away. Most 3D cutting requires either ball or center-cutting end mills because of this. Just some thoughts. May not be the solution. Good luck.

'nother question When using z rough to cut a .1 pocket with a .09 endmill. I divided it into 4 .025 passes with .01 left for the finish pass. The first pass was located at z+.01, the second at z-.015, then z-.04, then z-.065 then z-.09. My question is why it there a tool path above the work? I just deleted the 10,500 lines of code that were above the work, and cut the part with out a problem. I found the same thing with slice radial Matt

The Finish allowance field is used for X, Y and Z. So when you tell the system to leave n amount for finishing, it does it on all surfaces, including the flat surface at Z0. As for the ramp that appeared in the path, it would likely have to do with the linking type selected and the facetting of your model. If you want to post the file, I can look at it and see if there is any other reason for this happening. Regards
