    Curves and Surfaces

    How do I draw surfaces?

I have some text that I want to project onto a surfaces. I can draw it in a 2D way, but not 3D. Basically, I can draw a blueprint.

I have a lot to learn!

    Toby, will this work?

This is the profile of the part. I want it extruded in to 2.5" long. Although this is drawn in XY plane, it needs to be viewed (or thought of) in XZ.

I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post the picture, so I'll just post the link. A new window will open from Photobucket.

    Thanks in advance.

BTW, I tried drawing this in V21. I couldn't get it to draw a circle on the XZ plane. It was always in the XY plane even though I had the 3D button on.

    Should I start using 2007?

This is possible in V21 but to get the surface you have to use the Cross Section Surfacing, Revolve Surfacing or the Skin Surfacing. Depending on the results that you want.

To draw in the XZ plain you can do one of two things.

    1) draw your circle in the XY plane and Rotate it 90 degrees in the X
    2) Change your UCS to the XZ plane then draw. Then be sure to change it back before you post G-Code.

As for V2007, if you already have it's a good idea to start using it because of the differences in the GUI.

V2007 has additional drawing features over V21 too.

I will take some time to get used to GUI though.

    Toby,

Do you work on the side. I have been learning the solids side of the software onyl to find out I can't add draft angles to my solid and I am out of time and need to start machining now.
