bobcad21 VS vcarve pro

Hi, Im trying to choose a affordable cam-program for my heidenhain mill. I have narrowed it down to bobcad21, sheetcam or vcarve.
I manufacture simpel stainless machineparts. I have access to autocad and solid egde. I don't really need the cad-part in bobcad for example because the drawings is already made. Vcarve seems extremly easy to use compared to bobcad. But are they even comparable?

I think Vcarve could compare to Bobart but not Bobcad/cam. The difference is what it can do. Vcarve is designed for creating image carvings (like Bobart) or text but not for machining pockets, profiles, drilling, etc.

So it really counts on what you are looking for. If it is 3D engraving you need then check out BobArt to compare it to.

Sheetcan can do 2 1/2 D but not 3D milling. I would say it is closer to Bobcad 2007 level 2 but with less options but does include nesting. Again it is what you need.

Bobcad probably seems more difficult at first due to allthe options available.

Actually, Vcarve Pro doesn't do images. Their other product, Photo Vcarve does images which can then be imported into Vcarve Pro. Vcarve Pro does, though do all the things you say it doesn't. It does give much more in the pro than the vcarve I have saw. However it still seems to be limited for full machine shop use but the hobbiest or for light machining it looks nice.

Close to the Bobcad level 2 in 2007 without 3D solid machining.

Or can it do any 3D machining?

you have to look at what you need, and what you get for your money. I'm not sure what the price on v-carve is but the amount of money you pay for Bobcad and what you get is alomost unmatchable!! Bottom line the best bang for the buck!!

What I really NEED to be able to do is:
making reliable 2d contours in stainless steel, faster than I can program manual.
Make a little 3d radius and balls, simple stuff.

I got a great demonstration from bobcad, but I got the feeling that the software is quite old (V21) and unnecessary complicated.
Vcarve is so simple and user friendly. But on the other hand, its made for making signs in wood.

The most important thou is that I can make signs and fun stuff for myself with the expensive company-mill and software

Saw your statement but unless you have bought Bobcad then you would not know about the pricing they offer. They have some very good deals available (especially for smaller companies).

They offer some very good discounts for anyone who really wants to purchase and doesn't have a fortune to spend.

I played with Vcarve a bit and to tell the truth if that is all the options you need it is a really nice package. Just not everything most full shops would need. Small shops may get by with it but they could also buy the full V21 for that price with sales that would be offered.
