I kinda know what you're saying but Top Radius, what's that?
I thought maybe time to load all of my Corner Rounding (radius cutters) into tool library
What problem I have run into is why enter the small diameter length for the tool if it doesn't comp the tool?
I would think that it should comp the tool so that the top radius would be at Z0.0 (part top), but what ever length I have for small diameter length keeps the tool that much above part top.
To get cut at top of part I have to enter Radius of tool and small length dims to cut depth.
Help Please or is this a problem??

I quite like targeted ads if they're not intensely annoying so I'll enable ads when your advertisers stop using annoying sounds, annoying slideshows and annoying animations

It makes sense,,,
Use a radius cutter in a manual machine
Usually u would move cutter to edge of the top radius,,zero it,,then take another .004 off for the sake of grinding of the tool not perfect
A manual machine is easy to use the handles and your eyes to "touch" off
CNC,,not so much,"physically would need to climb in the machine"
So,with the way BoB does it you can "probe" or do the "paper" trick from bottom of tool
And of course, depending on manufacture,,,the small diameter length varies
And one more time "the small diameter length varies from one brand to another"
Does that makes sense ?
Another way to look at it,,remember when BoB had no corner rounding tools ??
Remember how you had to achieve the tool path ?
Worked,but a little more involved
Unless all the different manufactures made all the tools the same,,I see BoB's way as the only logical way to tackle this
Again,a heck of a lot easier in a CNC to touch off the bottom of tool then try and do the top outer edge of radius
And also,,depending on different things, you do not want Top of Job exactly at top of radius,,,simply,,,usually will add a few thousands so you do not overcut,,just happens to be the way you have to do things to have successful corner rounding with no gouging,,,,lot's of little things make an adjustable DOC desirable (cutter not ground concentric being #1)
And on the same token,,my practice is to "lie" about the small diameter a little too
Yes that makes sense that is the same that I set up my tools.
I think what I am trying to ask is what is the purpose of entering the small dia. length if it has no effect on the tool.
Kind of like putting in a EM dia. and not having it be calculated by comp.
Am I missing something ? if those dims as in the pic are entered in the tool parameters and a depth of .5 is entered for cut is staying .040 above part top
Thanks for the replies

Well,,,putting in the small diameter length sure makes a difference if you are touching off from bottom of tool
Another thing I thought of,,very rare, but have done corner rounding on slightly angled surfaces
In those cases need to adjust depth
I can't tell you why the developers did what they did,,,surely they could comp
For reasons I explained,I prefer how it is cause always slightly adjusting tool dimensions anyways.Corner rounding to look nice,,,a few thousands really make a difference
If you are saying the .500 entered on 2nd page of wizard,,,well that is ignored,,,just like when using Chamfer,,,,,Parameters page is where it counts
Yes 2nd page or the Feature Parameter would be wrong page to enter the Depth
The page that I'm entering the .500 Depth is about 4 or 5 pages farther in just Parameter page and then shows in sim .04 to shallow .540 puts it at the correct Depth
I guess just have to do the add and enter
you are correct
Sure it would not be nothing too hard for BoB to do what you want,,,but I prefer the way it is (imagine that ?)
BTW,I strictly use manual tools,,never the tool crib,,,always,,,,just me
Sounds like a job for tool center instead of tool tip?
would it be possible to add reminder notes (work around notes) to a page
* Note add small Dia. length and Radius and enter in Depth Parameter if Full Corner Rounding is desired.
I think sometime back there was some info on adding program stop boxes or some thing like that
You just had a thread on the problem it presents to you,,,,have a feeling it is embedded in your brain noggin now
If my old memory serves me right,,,you are talking about "advanced post"
