Does BobCad support Helicoil STI thread taps?

Hey guys,

I'm using V28. We have a job where we need to install M10 helicoils in aluminum. I have an M10 helicoil kit that comes with the STI tap. However in BC I don't see that these taps are supported in the thread type selection process. Is it possible to make this work?

sure,,,draw in 3D wire frame
Mill in 3D engrave,,using a thread mill

but

I would use a tapping head,like a tapmatic,on a manual machine.Faster than CNC

Or you could just add the tap to the thread chart in bobcad.... You just need to know what the thread pitch of the tap is.

Thread pitch of the helicoil tap should be the same as the finished thread size.

It's the same pitch and you can get spiral point and spiral flute taps for the inserts, provided your machine can drive the slightly larger tap I can't see why you think you have an issue?

Personally its such an easy thing to do manually why bother with a cad system to do tapping?

Well you wouldn't, you'd use a CAM system and a CNC system, in your CAD system would only need a point to define the centre and you'd define surface and depth in CAM

2 things

1-you don't need to tie up a $100,000 machine

2-it's faster

I agree with you, I was just pointing out threading with a tap isn't done in CAD
The only threading I do on a mill it thread-milled where I need something a tap can't achieve,
