What happened here?

I have been having a little problem and need to know if anyone else has encountered it.

I did a 3d drawing in v17, did the toolpath and let the program write the cam. I then did a geometry from code for verification and to my surprise the gcode file does not lay back over the toolpath. I am not talking about location either! There are wide variations in the ends of some of the lines that should all end at the same point! Anyone else?? I don't know how to post the file or I would be glad to do so.

You can zip the file and add it as a attachment OR save the file as a .txt and upload it.

In general terms, you have to make sure that the code was exported in standard ISO. The backplot utility has to make some presumptions about what the G00, G01, G02 and G03 mean. This is generally all that a backplotter can read.

Make sure that your current machine cfg matches the one that created the file. You may have to play around with G90, G91 settings as well as incremental or absolute arc centers until you hit the magic combo.

Thanks guys. Paul I will try the file another day since I am still trying to get my machine running correctly.

Hu I think you may have offered some insight since I have been tinkering with G90 and G91 in the program. My real problem is though, that I have older versions of Bobcad that I can backplot in and they are always the same. You did give me an idea though. I will take the new gcode and back plot it through the old version and see what I get.

Heeeeeeeyyy Huuuuuu!

I just used on of my old programs to backplot the cam file, after taking everything but g0,g1,g2,and g3 out, and it still shows the cam file is not the same as the drawing. The odd thing is, I used the drawing to mirror the other side and hen I backplotted it.......guess what? I can take it and lay it right back over the drawing it was made from and everything fits.

Do you are anyone else know if this was a bug in v17??

Are you working totally within Bobcad17, or are you mixing and matching between different versions?

So which axis is it mirroring in? Maybe you had some means (in your machine cfg) of inverting one of the axis outputs when you created the file? That would be done simply by changing the sign of one (or more) axis.

Nope Hu everything done within v17. It is a rifle stock that I drew 1/2 of in v17, did the tool path and then mirrored it in the y axis.

I drew the left side of the stock first and that is where all the mistakes are that are readily visible on the redraw from code. I will be more than glad to email the drawing to you along with the tool path that has been redrawn so you can see what I am talking about, or I will try to do a screen shot and post it here. I will have to go the shop and get it as I don't have all the file on my pc here at home. I appreciate your help too!

Let me know what your choice is, if either, and I will try to make it happen.

Hi Mike,

You can email that file you wish to backplot to me. Zip it down first and make sure it is no larger than 5 megs

Hu it had better be smaller than 5 megs or my server will time out on me. I am out in the country on a dial-up. DSL is three miles from my house and I can't get it!! I'll send it either later tonight or in the morning!
