how would I do something like this

Hello guys!!
I'm kinda new to cnc and bobcad, I just finished my shizouka cnc retrofit and now I'm into bobcad trying to learn most of it.
I was playing with surfaces and trying to figure something out.
Here's a pic of what I'm trying to do
I managed to do something but I don't like it the way it looks.
I used splines in between the corners of the cubes but when you use 4 edge surface it get's bad.
second picture is what I did.
Thanks for any help in advance.
Tobyaxis looks like he's da man!!!
Hey man I was checking your parts out, I hope I'll get to do something like that soon I wish

Wow, nice part cbucner. Looks like you want to push the software a bit.

I'll see what can be done, but you will have to post some dimensions. As a note the Cross Section Surfacing is what I'll be trying to use for this part.

Rectangle Length, Width, and Height. The Twist looks like an obvious 90 degrees. If that is wrong post that too.

BTW: your first pic looks like a SolidWorks Drawing

Did something better today again
here's the pic
As for dimensions toby doesn't matter , I used 2 cubes with 1" sides about 1" apart on the Z it really doesn't matter
I used splines and 4 edge surfacing.
I wanna see what's your input.
Thanks for the reply

my bad, the cubes are 1" x and y and .5 on z .
You can see that when the software creates the surface it doesn't follow the spline that good on the edge. maybe I have to split the splines in multiple segments , this way it will follow better.
It's hard to learn all this stuff without any tutorials.
I'll see what's next.
Thanks

Try the equalize function to tighten the geometry. I'm testing .01 Line Segments with the Skin Function. Personally I wish BCC had a Twist and Bend Function.

Are there no tutorials with Bobcad?

I would have thought for $1k+, a few tutorials would be a given.

Nice parts, it looks like a powerful program, although I would have thought that a bend function would also be there for upwards of a grand. Maybe Im naieve.

cbucner, as a new user is it a good program?

thanks.

I got your part to work, but had a small computer problem when saving it. I'll do it again and post the drawing in BCC format Zipped. I do have to say that with the Accuracy being so tight the computer was using 2GB to run the file. This file may not fit here even if Zipped.

This is how I did it just in case.

Take your twisted spine geometry and equalize to .001 then use the Surface Creation "Skin Function". Follow the directions in the Skin Creation. Use an Axial Center Point and Rotate Copy 3.

Stitch the four surfaces together. Create the two boxed ends unstitch, and delete each surface where your surface geometry (twisted middle) will stitch together. Use the stitching to stitch all the surface geometry together.

The file dosen't fit here.

They should have a twist funtion, for this kind of software that's a need!!!
Maybe somebody will hear us and do it in the new ver 22.
They should also have the real time drag and drop of objects not the way it's now .
I did alot of corel before and I'm used to power of corel.
And there way many more things that a software like bobcad should have.
Personally I find very hard to select the direction of the chains .
It takes me 3-4 times at least to get the chains selected for creating surfaces, most of the times the direction changes on you right before you cick and that's it, it's screwed, or it changes when you click and I really hate that.
Anyway I'm trying to understand most of it .
Toby, I have a question.
If you have for example a cube that you make it out of 6 planar surfaces not using the cube function, or any other geometry made by joining more surfaces , it's not considered a solid?? is it??
Because let's say i do a cube out of 6 planar face surfaces, then I want to use a cilinder right trough my cube and use the boolean function difference
it doesn't do what it does if you are using a reg cube function.
My question is how can you make a geometry made out of many surfaces a solid.
Any advice will be much appreciated.
Where are you located toby??
I'm in IL , Do you have an email where I can email you an access to my server so you can upload the cad file you did??
Thanks

I really sounds like a few people here need to see Sorin's videos. Sorin does the training seminars for Bobcad and he has a web sight for BobCad users to download their videos.

goto www.cadcamtrainer.com and select the links. You can PM me from the forum on his sight and I will supply you with a username and password to download the files.

V22 will be a lot different than previous Versions of BCC because it is a total re-write from scratch

We will all need to be here and other places when it is released
