Question Re formatted HD...Now different User Codes

As I couldn't open Windows XP, I reinstalled XP and lost all data on partion 'C' in the Hard-Drive
This is the same PC, but I now get different 'User Codes' and will need to go back to BobCAD and request new Authorization Codes.
How could this happen? I have BCC Ver.20.5

It is my understanding that a CPU Hard Drive should retain it's I.D. numbers unless you replace the actual Hard Drive.

Did you have to reinstall all of the O/S Software? This seems really weird Kiwi and a first time hearing something like this.

Make sure you Post This in the BCC Forum as well.

Toby
Same Hard-Drive, same CPU, same Ram, same Mother Board, same mouse.
Only thing I can think of is the user name may be different.
This is the second time this has happened with BCC.

BTW Please post BCC forum address as that got lost as well.

With version 22 this will all be changed. They will be going to a hard lock (dongle). This will be better for most people who have to worry about OS and hardware issues. The main trouble with hardlocks are when they go bad (all hardware will fail sometime). Then you will have to wait for a new one unless you get two seats.

This is typical for this type of product. It is sad but the way things change so fast not even the best company can keep up with the mess of Gatesware.

Tim, what about Lap Top Computers or will it be a USB Dongle instead of the other crappy kind? BTW, who told you?

as far as V22 goes it is all up in the air for now. But I did talk to Bobcad about some of the V22 things to come. I don't think a dongle would be a big secret though and if they change their minds before release it would be up to them.

Anyhow I did not think to ask about the type of dongle.

Reformating the Hard drive changes its Volume ID number. If I'm not mistaken.

Thanks Paul S
If the Volume ID number is part of the info to generate the user code this may be the answer.
I've requested a new Authorization code from BCC and await their reply.

Toby

Received a authorization code and all up and running.
After posting my query I have since reformatted my HD again (I got a virus because I didn't have enough protection) and another set of User numbers.
I explained what was happening to BC and here is part of their response.

>> P.S. The user codes will always change every time you shut it down
>> or do any kind of changes to the computer itself.- that's not a big
>> deal, we can work around it.

They were very understanding and most helpful.

Why do you think I'm still a Customer

Try that with some of the other software providers. BCC has always worked with me and continues to impress many with their customer relations.

Have a nice day Kiwi
