Opening Mastercam In Bobcad

Opening Mastercam in Bobcad
Question:
We are converting from MasterCam to BobCad. Is there an easy way to convert our current programs to where BobCad will recognize them? In other words our programs are saved as NC files but with no extension. I have tried renaming them with the .cnc but that doesn't work. What I have to do is to open the program in word pad, copy and paste into BobCad. This is going to be extremely time consuming. Anyone have a solution?

Answers:
In bobcad use file and merge on the NC side and set types of files to all files this will open code in bobcad.

Responds:

Most excellent!!! Thanks for the info!

So tell me what, does Bobcad have some kind of new 'fuzzy logic' now, where it says "Oh, so this is how Mastercam does it, eh? Neat-o> I'll just use this, and this and that and oh, this over here...ya..... oh, btw, remove all association with the toolpath arrow thingy.... done"

Just ribbin' ya a bit in good fun. I felt sorry for this thread

Good fun is what life is all about. With any software I think it is some kind of "FUZZY LOGIC". How many of us who use software understand how and why it works(I don't) and this thread is for Bobcad user anyways anyone can feel sorry for a bobcad user(and we don't care we paid a lot less for our software) or the mastercam user for what they payed for an upgrade that junk and needs to pay for more post processor

thanks for the responds Turmite, I start this thread after read the post on Bobsad website. The Question was not asked by me or answer by me. If one person has the question, I figure other would have the same question. That why the thread was started. If some can't see a file in a folder when trying to open type in *.* and hit open all files will now be seen in bobcad

Does anyone have a solution if it is the cad drawing instead of g-code. I had some drawings sent to me in .mcx but I could not open them. Fortunately there are some terrific members on this board and one of them converted the file for me. It would be nice to be able to convert them myself without bothering someone else to do it. I've tried changing the extension with no luck. My friend said he can only save them in .mcx and not in anything more universal like .iges or .stp.

The lowest and basic level MasterCam can save files as IGES, DXF, DWG, STP etc.... as well as MC9. No reason this guy can't get you a file you can use to open. Tell your friend to click " File > Save As (or Save) > ... " then select the file type to use in the pull down menu.

Then I can't explain it, yet. I have Bobcad V20.6 and I sent him a list of all the extensions that Bobcad will open including Rhinocad. Curiouser and curiouser. I will try to find out what the deal is.

Lightbulb Converting from Mastercam to Bobcad

Hello Lilricky2,

Tell your friend to open his Mastercam. Main>Main Menu>Files>Get>Select a file and open it. Then Look on the screen and he will see Converters. Click that and another menu will have a list of: read, write etc. Goto Write and the next Menu will ask what type of file extension? The list is there. It has iges, stp, etc.

Try this and above all if I have missed something tell him to look around a bit. It is there because I just used it at a friends shop the other day to Convert Mastercam files to iges. What was wireframe geometry on his screen came up as Solids on mine. He has Mastercam 8.1.1 with 3D.

Thanks, I appreciate this very much. I'll e-mail this over and see if it solves the problem. I've been ill lately so I have not been in touch. I am still not sure why he thinks he can't change the file. Thanks again for your help.
