    BobART Pro

I need some help using the BobART Pro 2 Rail Sweep Feature. I know this is the right feature to use to create the result I am looking for, just not sure how to go about it.

I've attached a sample of what I am looking for. Anything thoughts?

    Getting Closer

So I am trying to decide what order to do things in. This is what I have so far. This should be a fun little project to work on. If anyone has some tips, even if they are from an aspire client, it would be great to get some input.

    Hey Al,
Just got home and saw your file.. This should be a cool cut! This is about 45 seconds on your file.

    BobART Pro-als_emboss.jpg

I need to do some stuff with the kids for a bit, but will post something a little later so we can talk about it... There are some slivers to cleanup on the rails before I look at a good cross section to create (Minor stuff, but affects the profile). I may use a 2 step to create the wings that move in a seperate direction..

BTW.... I dont think you need to downgrade to Aspire to do this very simple example!

    Hey Al,
In your "so far" file, you have a 2 rail sweep which contains only a single rail option... I like the result that you have for this in the area i wanted to work on, but cant re-create the feature this way???

    Can you direct me?

(btw, there was no cleanup... It was a mistake on my part)

    Hey Al,
Fooled around with the sweeps a bit today.. Here's where I have it.

    BobART Pro-wings_yet.jpg

Still not really happy with the wings yet.. I've got the outer points going back down to the base level. Maybe they should remain raised up as a protrusion??? Also, the cross section for the wings wasnt setup with tangential edges (I just stole half of the cross section I used for the middle. Both of these shouls be redrawn with tangent ends so a good blended surface can be created... In this file, there is still a hard edge where it goes from the base into the wings, but I'm pretty sure it is these things. The cross section I created was just an on the fly yesterday, and I made it a convex shape.. Trying to read the picture, we may want to change it to have some good outward curvature too... some of it is just guessing from the picture, but you know what you want.

Give me some feedback when you see this, or show what you have come up with...

Here is where I am at so far. What I am finding is the direction of the rail and cross section makes a big difference to which side goes up and down.

Also I have found that when I save the file my rail #2 and Cross section disappear in the Emboss Model Tree??? Weird, has anyone else seen this before?

Anyway where the pink and green sections meet is where I am having the an issue. I want these to blend here and not sure which one should go first. I may need to do some sculpting to smooth out this area....

Thank burr for the help, I was away this weekend at Universal in Orlando all weekend, so I didn't get a chance to post back till late last night.

    Now we're talking!

I am much much happier with this. This part will but cut as a cavity but for the design I was going for I used Add and merge high to get the result I wanted.

The biggest thing I had to do was adjust the shapes locations as to make the intersection happen by the embossement not at the edge of the curves....

Take a look and let me know what you guys think.

That looks sweet Al! I fell into the old trap of trying to do it all at once... I had 3d rails going and everything

You have a good result there..

    Bookmarking for myself...

Also I have found that when I save the file my rail #2 and Cross section disappear in the Emboss Model Tree???
Yeah, thats not good!!! You can see them in the feature edit, but they are gone!

I know this guy Al that works for BobCad.. He'll know people to help you out with that! You wont even have to do a web meeting... He'll do it telepathically!
