There was a number of things I learned by making this part. Next step cut a sample and post the results... after that the fun part of sharing with everyone what I learned and the steps to making this part!

    Burr,

Don't feel bad, it's just one of those things ; ok where do I start. The good news is the test cut came out good, just a little more fine tuning and I have it just the way I want it

I will detail ever step I took and why, what I did wrong and the adjustments I made along the way.

    Thanks for the support guys!

So I wanted to get started and talk about some of the steps I took to make this file. Attached is the update drawing which would be a good start.

    1) Even though the part I want to cut is a negative, I created the part as a positive, and inverted to make the negative.

I found that in order to get the result I was looking for tying to model the part as a negative produce un wanted results that I could not get around. This may just be a training issue on my part, but once I started working the model as a positive things went along much smoother.

    2) I couldn't just emboss the outside shape and get the result I was looking for. So additional geometry had to be added to create the "cuts" in the model for the look I was going for.
