Have you tried specifying a maximum z depth.

yes i have tried it both ways, it still wants to cut through the block, the only way it dose what i want is when i select the whole model, i dont see what the problem is, everything i try gives the same result

Yes, this is your answer. If you select just a few "surfaces" of a solid object, then the feature no longer knows there is something there next to it, so it will just toolpath around the selected surface, without any concern for a surface which may be attached to it..

You would control the toolpath with a "boundry". So, select all joined/adjoing surfaces which come into play of the cut area, then use a boundry to constrain the toolpath to the area you want..

Here's a sample file where I attempted to constrain the toolpath, based on the surfaces you previously had selected... See if you can get the cut you want this way..

yep that was exactly what i was thinking, i was trying to use the wireframe lines to create the boundary, Thanks again burrman,

    Hi Kaw,
Yeah, for a boundry, the geometry needs to be planar. If you need to use the edges of your model to get a good boundry and they are non planar, you can create a plane surface, then project the 3d lines to it to flatten them out for a boundry selection.
