    What's The Story

As I posted previously I have a NEW UNUSED VER 24 BobCad FS that I've had about a week. I have the License ID & Password.

Is there somebody that can breakdown the email I received from BobCad so I can understand what their deal is? Would like to return it for refund, if possible, or resell it transferring the license with all tech support that is part of the original purchase to another Buyer.

What's the story? ......... Is this the no change business as usual concept of BobCad. Is this the same tactics that other Software companies implement? Could somebody give me the rest of the story? This is my first dealing with a CadCam dealer or reseller.

This is the exact email I received today. What can the Forum make of this as some things are a bit fuzzy to me?? Thank you very much......................

    Dear Customer:

If you are transferring a license of the BobCAD-CAM software to another user, and you have purchased additional licenses, hard lock (dongle) keys or add-on products for that version of the software, all additional licenses, hard lock (dongle) keys and add-on products must be transferred with the original license.

All products must be de-authorized prior to transferring.

3rd party products, support and training are non-transferable.

In order to complete a transfer of ownership you will need to submit the following information to BobCAD-CAM:
    Your Full Name
    Your Company Name
Your Contact Information including phone number and email address
    Software Version you are transferring
Full Name of person you are transferring your license(s) to
Full Company Name of person you are transferring your license(s) to
Full Contact Information including phone number and email address of person you are transferring your license(s) to

You may send your request to transfers@bobcad.com.

Once we have received your request to transfer your software license(s), the new owners of the software license(s) will be contacted to complete the transfer. At that time they will be responsible for a $100.00 non-refundable transfer fee. The transferred license can not be registered to the new owner until the transfer fee has been paid in full.

If you have any questions please contact me at 1-877-262-2231 ext 126.

    Thank you,

    Autumn Paice
    BobCAD-CAM Inc.

It appears to me that everything transfers with the license including extra seats. If you have two seats, then both seats will transfer under the one license. But it really isn't clear if BobCad charges $100 per license or just $100 for the main one and then the rest transfer as part of the deal.

I thought you had a couple of weeks to return the software to BobCad for a full refund.

What is wrong with the software? Evidently you don't like it since you already want to get rid of it. (edit: I see your "for sale" posting in this forum.)

Personally, I think you are jumping the gun on getting rid of it after one week. I'd play around with it some more and watch the videos and maybe something will "click". It did with me. I've used DolphinCad-CAM, Alibre, TurboCad (plus the CAM plug-in) and messed around with SolidWorks (one afternoon) and I can tell you all of them have a pretty good learning curve. You can always post questions here too.

(Some times what we think something appears to be is not, like I'm finding out, always the case. ???? )

(What about the free 45 day tech support that is provided when software is registered? I have not used, downloaded or registered it? In this case would that be transferred to the NEW buyer or would the NEW buyer come under what BobCad calls the 3rd party. That way support & training are non-transferable? )

(Is the de-authorizing process required in this case? How does that work?)

I thought you had a couple of weeks to return the software to BobCad for a full refund.

(Not according to Autumn......Once you purchase it you're the owner. Returns, in my situation, are not considered.

What is wrong with the software? Evidently you don't like it since you already want to get rid of it. (edit: I see your "for sale" posting in this forum.)

(With all due respect....As good as this software may be, Upon further research and in the final analysis, I realized that I made a mistake on expecting this software to do what I thought it could do no matter how much time I spent trying. )

(Rather than messing around and maybe messing up the software. For all intents an purposes It is a NEW, UNUSED, Unloaded Unregistered Copy setting on my desk in the original box. The NEW buyer canl be the First one to have that privilege).

(With that said, Mike, it is still available if you're interested?) PW

I just bought a whole slew of BobCAD programs. I was curious on why you were getting rid of it already without even loading it. It seems that the evaluation download should have given you a good overview of it before you purchased it...

Now had I not bought my set already, our conversation may have been slightly different.

    Good luck.

If you havnt loaded it, then there is no need to "de-authorize" however, the id and key to authorize it is already on you, sent with your invoice... The "transfer" would still need to happen.

Well that clears up that question?

I probably should call BobCad on this, but if you will? When transferring to another buyer. How does the request to transfer work? IS this be done when you know who the buyer is? Then usually how long does that take to approve by BobCad?

What I'm concerned about, Will the NEW (Next) buyer be granted the full 45 day unlimited tech support as the original buyer, or is he or she considered a 3rd party so support and training are conveniently terminated & considered non-transferable?

Thank you for taking the time to assist with this matter! PW

I have never transfered BobCad software, so I wouldnt know what that looks like. Surely calling them would be the best answer.. I dont know if the zone is where you should look for that answer.

The $100 transfer is a one time thing no matter how many seats ....

The transfer fee gives the buyer the following.

Full Software Ownership - Account is moved to their name.
    45 Days Support
    Upgrade privileges / pricing
