Lots of weird crap in the cut that isn't in the drawing. What's going on?

I notice on this part I'm getting extra random router plunges occasionally and the toolpathing is really random.

By random I mean the router will cut one profile, jump a few parts over cut another, jump back and cut the next nearest part. It's really bad sorting for some reason.

    Any idea what's going on?

    thanks!
    Nick

p.s. lastly, the bit is a 1/16" spiral cutter.

    Hi Nick,
Try select all those contours and delete them, then re-create them. Be sure to shift clcik in the SAME PLACE on all the geometry, so the start and end points of the contours are the same. Then it will "closest" cut consistently.

    Thanks for the illustration Burr.

Here's another example of what I'm talking about. Not in the drawing but as you can see in verify (and in the tool path) it just decides to poke a hole in a random spot.

    This is just weird.

    Check out the picture.

    Hi Nick,
Well, with your last file, you had contours at various starts and stops and such. Selecting them as I described had the cuts go through in cycled order as wanted...

I cant help much with the screenshot, but it most likely has to do with the geometry. Try to create a contour of the areas. If it "jumps off of a contour, in the middle of it", then you can run an arc fit on the geometry before contouring it, to straighten that out.
